WWDC10 Sold Out

Apple’s annual Worldwide Developer Conference (WWDC) sold out in just eight days. WWDC 2010 is being held June 7-11 in San Francisco’s, Moscone West. If you go to Apple’s Developer page you will find a “SOLD OUT” next to the “Buy” Button. Tickets were going for $1599.

At the WWDC10 it is highly likely that Apple will show the iPhone OS 4 and all of its features. The OS 4 was already announced in April and features include multitasking, a Game Center and iAd, among other features. The big news that everyone is waiting for is the new iPhone itself. Will it be the iPhone HD? The iPhone 4? Whatever it’s called I’m buying it! The iAd feature is not too exciting since everyone hates ads. The pro I guess is that these ads are interactive and not so boring.

Being an Apple Developer myself, I received an email from Apple on April 28th. I was excited and ready to buy but hesitant of the $1599 price tag. I hinted around to a few friends and relatives to go but I couldn’t find anyone. I didn’t know it would sell out so fast, I guess I won’t be going now.

Digg is downsizing staff

Digg laid-off 10 percent of its staff. Kevin Rose (founder of Digg) sent an email to employees explaining the lay-off decision. Rose recently took over the CEO position of Digg after the departure of Jay Adelson one month ago. Rose did mention that Digg is still hiring in the Engineering and Development areas.

Being a big fan of Kevin Rose and Digg i think this was a smart move on his part and this move can only help the company. It feels bad to let staff go but as a manager myself you have to know when and where to make cuts before it is too late. Like they say “It’s nothing personal it’s just business”.

Digg is adapting and since the launch of the Facebook “like” button there is some concern for the future of Digg’s success. I think Digg has some new and great ideas in the works and they need to focus on what is relevant to today’s social crowd. This means cutting back on administrative positions to save money and allocate that money on beefing up the production team.

Note to Kevin: I need a job and would love be a part of the Digg family. I have thousands of ideas, have a Degree in Web design and know some coding. Email me. lol

Caution: New Yahoo Messenger Worm

Thursday a worm was spreading through Yahoo Messenger. The worm tricks users into downloading an image from a friend. The link is malware that installs a backdoor on Windows systems and spreads itself to a victim’s IM contacts. It is considered very dangerous.

Do not fall for a message from a contact using a smiley icon and an image link with the word ‘photo’. The link will take you to what looks like a social networking Web site. The link really opens an exactable file (.exe). If you are using a Mac you are safe but if you are using Windows, the file will download. If the user then clicks ‘run’ the computer will become infected and the malware will be distributed to all of your IM contacts. If your contact opens the worm it will keep spreading and so on.

According to Symantec: “Once run, the worm copies itself to %WinDir%\infocard.exe, and then it adds itself to the Windows Firewall List,” modifies registry keys, and stops the Windows Updates service. Symantec detects the malware as W32.Yimfoca and said it affects Windows 98, Windows 95, Windows XP, Windows Me, Windows Vista, Windows NT, Windows Server 2003, and Windows 2000.
